JCC Board of Supervisors to Meet
The James City County Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss a potential land purchase needed to construct the new fire station in Toano. A public hearing will be held on whether the land, if purchased, should be leased back to the owners.
The board will also hold a public hearing and consider an application for a new Enterprise Zone and will consider accepting a civil penalty.
A joint work session is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday between the board and the James City County Planning Commission to discuss the Coordinated Regional Comprehensive Plan. The board will also discuss updates to county ordinances associated with rural lands.

JCC Offers Memorial Day Events
James City County is offering Karaoke in the Park from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. The event is free and open to all ages. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. In the event of inclement weather, call the Weather Hotline at 757-259-3232.
The county pools are opening for the season and two outdoor pools – in Chickahominy Riverfront Park and Upper County Park – will have Opening Day events noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Door prizes, contests and games will be featured throughout the day.
The pools are open weekends through June 9 and daily operations will begin June 14.
Admission fees apply. The 2013 outdoor pool passes are available for purchase in the James City County Recreation Center, Satellite Service Center in Toano and at the pools.

JCC Fire Administration Building Receives LEED Gold
The James City County Fire Administration Building has received the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification.
LEED certified buildings are graded on sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation in design and regional priority.
The Fire Administration Building has a stormwater management plan that reduces runoff by 35 percent, reduced light pollution, minimized thermal losses, water smart plumbing fixtures that reduce usage by more than 40 percent, a high-efficiency HVAC system and a heat on-demand natural gas water heater.
The building is located at 5077 John Tyler Highway. It provides room for Fire Administration, Fire Support Services, EMS Training and the Fire Marshal’s office.
The Board of Supervisors’ 2010 Sustainability Policy requires all county buildings and renovations to seek LEED certification.
