VIN Etching and Child Safety Seat Check
The James City County Police Department and Virginia State Police will conduct VIN etching from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday in the Target parking lot on Monticello Avenue.
VIN etching is a process where a chemical solution is used to etch a vehicle’s VIN number onto its windows as a theft counter measure and can also help police recover a stolen vehicle.
Some states allow insurance rate reductions for vehicles with VIN-etched windows.
During the child safety seat checks, seats will be checked for recalls, proper installation, proper placement and usage.
Both services are free and take a short time to complete.
