The James City County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday; the adopted fiscal year 2014 budget is now available online, as is the fiscal year 2012 annual report. Parks and Recreation has released a list of May programs, and a mountain bike clinic will take place over two Saturdays, starting May 11. The county is also offering free Community Emergency Response Team training for citizens.
JCC Board of Supervisors Meeting
The James City County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday and will have one public hearing, as well as a number of other items for consideration.
The public hearing will be on the proposed fiscal year 2014-2019 Secondary Six-Year Plan, which is a plan to improve roads in the county. Listed in the proposed plan are projects to widen Longhill and Croaker roads. Staff recommends the Longhill Road project take precedence over the Croaker Road project.
Combined, the two projects would cost almost $24.5 million; to date, $1.74 million has been previously funded.
The board will also consider:
- Accepting a $200,000 matching grant from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Trails Program to assist in costs for a paved trail at Freedom Park.
- A $401,762 contract award to Henderson Inc. for construction of a segment of the Freedom Park Trail.
- Accepting a $7,500 Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund Grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Division of Legislative Services to assist in funding a special environmental education program for REC Connect Summer Camps.
- Appropriating a $25,000 grant from the National Alliance to End Homelessness toward county Office of Housing and Community Development staff salaries, a database and market for landlords and a contingency fund to assist in paying damage to rented properties.
- Appropriating a $10,000 grant from the Virginia Housing Development Authority toward housing counseling services.
- A contract award of $195,300 to Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP for audit services.
- Adopting the county website policy.
- Awarding a contract to Meridian Land Company, LLC to complete the bonded infrastructure in Ford’s Colony at Williamsburg Section XXXV.
JCC Budget, Annual Report Online
James City County’s fiscal year 2014 adopted budget and fiscal year 2012 annual report are available online.
The Board of Supervisors adopted the fiscal year 2014 budget at its April 23 meeting; the budget goes into effect July 1 this year.
The fiscal year 2012 annual report gives information on projects, other initiatives and achievements from July 2011 to June 2012, such as updates to Parks and Recreation programs and projects, and the county’s progress on economic development.
Public computers with Internet access are available at the Williamsburg Library at 515 Scotland St. and at the James City County Library at 7770 Croaker Road.
JCC Parks and Recreation’s May Programs
James City County Parks and Recreation has released a list of May programs, events and activities. The list includes activities for adults and children, including karaoke in the park and movies under the stars, a babysitting course, a social security planning course and more.

XC Mountain Bike Clinic
James City County is offering an XC Mountain Bike Clinic from 9 a.m. until on 2 p.m. today and May 18. The clinic will teach basic riding skills, techniques and rules of the trail as well as climbing efficiently, controlling descent, cornering and more.
Bikes and helmets are required; water bottles are encouraged.
The clinic will take place at Freedom Park at 5537 Centerville Road. Registration is $20 and is $15 for James City County and Williamsburg residents. All ages are welcome.

Community Emergency Response Team Training
James City County is offering free Community Emergency Response Team training for citizens to learn to be prepared for emergencies.
All classes are held at the James City County Fire Training Center at 5077 John Tyler Highway. Registration for the class may be done online or by calling James City County Emergency Management at 757-564-2142.
