Teen Accused of Threatening Student, Bringing Knife to School
A Jamestown High student may face charges after police say he threatened someone through a third party on Facebook and had a knife in his backpack.
An assistant principal at Jamestown High contacted the school resource officer Tuesday after security found a knife in the 15-year-old boy’s backpack, authorities said.
An investigation revealed the student, whose name cannot be released due to his age, had threatened another student via a third party on Facebook the night before.
Petitions asking a judge to charge the teenager with possession of a weapon on school property and threats of death or bodily injury to a person on school property have been requested, police said.
Betsy Overkamp-Smith, a spokesperson for the Williamsburg-James City County School Division, said although she cannot provide specific details, disciplinary action has been taken by the school.
Police Receive Two Reports of Wallet, Purse Thefts
A 29-year-old woman was arrested after a friend accused her of stealing her purse and using her credit card.
A woman told James City County Police her friends came to her home on the 2300 block of William Ellerly Drive on Jan. 1 to help her unpack.
When the friends left, the woman noticed her purse was missing and contacted her friends, who indicated they did not know where it was, police said.
The next day, the woman found her purse on the kitchen table and checked her bank account, noticing two unauthorized transactions totaling $273 had been made overnight, a police report states.
The woman told police Maria Ann Decker, 29, contacted her a few days later and admitted to taking the purse and using the credit card at a 7-Eleven ATM. Video surveillance also captured Decker using the card, authorities said.
Decker now faces one charge of credit card theft and one charge of grand larceny, both felonies.
In a separate report filed on Feb. 2, a woman told police 19-year-old Maria Johnson stole her wallet and used cash to buy a cell phone from Walmart.
Surveillance video from the store showed Johnson purchasing the cell phone with cash, police said.
After the purchase, Johnson suggested to the alleged victim to look for her wallet in a specific location, and when the woman went to the location, she found her wallet with $413 missing, authorities said.
Johnson was charged with felony grand larceny and misdemeanor obstruction of justice.
