A 37-year-old Newport News man is facing a DUI charge after crashing into a car on Richmond Road.

Police and emergency crews arrived at the intersection of Richmond Road and Route 199 at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday to find Margarito Santos-Andres had crashed his 1999 Ford pickup truck into a teenager driving a 2003 Toyota minivan.

James City County Police Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said the impact from the pickup caused the teenager to hit a 2007 Toyota sedan in the rear.

The accident caused the eastbound lanes of Richmond Road to be shut down for about an hour as crews worked to tow the pickup and the minivan — both of which had substantial damage — from the scene.

The teenage girl was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News with injuries not life-threatening, Rubino said.

Santos-Andres was charged with DUI and driving without a license and is being held at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
