James City County may have a new county administrator following an Aug. 8 meeting.
The James City County Board of Supervisors has scheduled a special meeting at 3 p.m. Aug. 8 to appoint a county administrator. No additional details were provided in the release, and the county’s human resources director was not able to provide more information.
The county administrator job was advertised twice, with the first posting prompting 54 applicants to throw their names in for consideration. The number of applicants who submitted resumes in the second round has not been released.
Closed sessions were held May 19 and July 15 to allow the supervisors time to interview candidates for the position. The supervisors gathered for a closed session June 24 to discuss candidates and on July 1 to review applicants.
On Nov. 26, the supervisors fired then-county administrator Robert Middaugh on a vote of no-confidence, which was split 3-2 along party lines — the Republicans on the board in favor of his termination. The supervisors named Assistant Administrator Doug Powell acting county administrator in January.
