A Kingsmill home on Hampton Key was damaged early Tuesday by a fire.
Sixteen units from the James City County and Williamsburg fire departments responded at 2:59 a.m. Tuesday to a reported structure fire at the 3,800 square foot, two-story home.
The house suffered extensive heat damage to the interior of the attic, moderate heat damage to the roof and an exterior gable and moderate water damage to the second floor, according to a news release from James City County.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the James City County Fire Marshal’s Office. Three people were in the home when the fire began, but they were able to get outside safely and call 911. Nobody was hurt from the fire.
The first crews on scene entered through the front door and went to the attic, where they found heavy heat, fire and smoke. They were able to bring the fire under control by 3:30 a.m.
Units then conducted an overhaul and searched for and extinguished hidden fires. The last unit left the scene at 5:32 a.m.
