Police: Prisoners at VPRJ Caught Smuggling Drugs Into Jail
Two women who reported Monday to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail to serve sentences are facing felony possession of contraband charges after corrections officers say they found small plastic bags containing pills and cash.
Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department said corrections officers found the plastic bags on the women as they were being processed through intake. The corrections officers found a bag in the genital area of 35-year-old Shenita Sheree Crawley and in the hair of 24-year-old Kristy Lynn McClemmy.
The pills in the bags were prescription pills, Rubino said.
VPRJ Inmate Accused of Throwing ‘Unknown Liquid’ on Corrections Officer, Punching Him
An inmate is accused of throwing an unknown liquid onto a corrections officer and then punching him through the tray slot of a door at VPRJ’s medical center March 3.
Rubino said 31-year-old Justin Marshall Evans was in a cell in the medical area of the jail when the incident occurred. A corrections officer attempted to serve him lunch through the tray slot when Evans allegedly threw the liquid on the officer. When the officer confronted him, Evans is then alleged to have punched him in the groin through the slot.
The corrections officer was not hurt during the incident. The type of liquid thrown through the window remains unclear.
Evans has been charged with felony assault and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Man Accused of Firing Shotgun After Family Fight
A Toano man is facing one misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm in a public place after he allegedly fired his shotgun six times in his backyard following an argument that occurred inside the house.
Rubino said police responded to a residence on the 100 block of School Lane just after 6 p.m. March 10. Officers believe 19-year-old Maximilian Wheat Schober got into an argument with people in the home and then went into the backyard and fired his shotgun six times into a wood pile.
Schober was cooperative with officers when they arrived. Nobody was hurt.
