Three Crashes Cause Significant Delays on I-64

Update 4:55 p.m.: All lanes on Interstate 64 East around mile marker 240 are open, with a 6-mile delay reported by VDOT.

The accident on Interstate 64 West near milemarker 239 was cleared around 4:12 p.m., according to VDOT.

Update 4:12 p.m.: There were non-life threatening injuries in the five-vehicle accident that has backed up traffic on Interstate 64 East near mile marker 240, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police.

The accident occurred around 2:57 p.m. One lane reopened around 3:35 p.m., however the other lane remains closed.

Emergency responders are at the scene of two other accidents in the area, both on I-64 West near Queens Creek. The first accident happened at 2:26 p.m. and caused non-life threatening injuries. Nobody was hurt in the second accident, which happened eight minutes later.

Original Post 3:48 p.m.: The Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 East in James City County, about halfway between the Capitol Landing Road interchange (Exit 238) and the Route 199 Water Country USA interchange (Exit 242).

VDOT is encouraging drivers in that area to use an alternate route.

As of 3:47 p.m., wreckers were on the scene at mile marker 240 on I-64 East. The backup is currently 3 miles. One lane is open.

A separate crash in the same area of James City County on Interstate 64 West around mile marker 238 involving a semi-truck and a dump truck has caused a four-mile backup, VDOT reports.
