A string of vehicle break-ins have been reported throughout James City County over a period of eight days.
James City County Police have received 30 reports of vehicle break-ins, attempted break-ins, attempted thefts or vehicle tampering between Sept. 1 and 8, said Stephanie Williams-Ortery, a police spokesperson.
Cash, electronic items and a firearm are among the items reported stolen during the series of incidents that has hit neighborhoods such as Stonehouse near Old Stage Road in Toano, Williamsburg West off Longhill Road, Settler’s Mill off Jamestown Road and others.
The report of a stolen firearm came from an alleged break-in on Old Grove Lane in Toano between 10 p.m. and midnight Sept. 7, and a license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle at Ferrell Drive off Pocahontas Trail near Busch Gardens between Sept. 2 and 4.
Some of the break-ins are believed to be related, Ortery-Williams said. Police have no information regarding the suspect or suspects at the time.
“We recommend that people not leave valuables in their vehicles and to always lock their vehicles,” she said.
Last month, eight cars were reported broken into in Toano between Aug. 12 and Aug. 16, and 14 cars were reportedly rummaged through in the Scott’s Pond subdivision Aug. 6 and 7.
