A 31-year-old man suspected of stealing a lighter from the Norge 7-Eleven and concealing a pair of brass knuckles in his pocket will face a jury in October.

Brian Pete Monahan was arrested Dec. 11 along with 24-year-old Brandon Tarain White after police approached them at the Croaker Road 7-Eleven regarding thefts from the Norge 7-Eleven, both in James City County.

Deputy Chief Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department said in December that the clerk at the Norge 7-Eleven saw three men enter the store just before midnight Dec. 11. One of them pocketed a lighter before leaving in a vehicle.

Officers soon found the vehicle at the Croaker Road 7-Eleven. Monahan, the alleged lighter thief, was arrested there and charged with felony petty larceny due to previous petty larceny convictions. When police searched Monahan, they allegedly found a pair of brass knuckles in his pocket.

Police said White was also in the vehicle and was charged with two counts of petty larceny and one count of concealing stolen property. Rubino said police believe White stole five packs of cigarettes and a Proscan Tablet computer from the Norge 7-Eleven.

White was convicted of felony petty larceny at a hearing last week in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison with 3 years and 10 months suspended, according to court records.

Monahan will face a jury at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21 in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court.
