The James City County Police Department is accepting applications through Aug. 29 for its 39th Citizens Police Academy.
James City County adult residents and workers are welcomed to apply for the free 15-session academy, which covers a variety of police duties.
The academy will cover the structure and philosophy of the county’s police department, as well as educate participants on RADAR, traffic stops, driving under the influence enforcement, search and seizure, building searches, polygraphs, handgun safety, firearms, crime scene investigation, officer survival and internal affairs.
Most of the academy’s classes are held 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at the Law Enforcement Center at 4600 Opportunity Way. The class will meet at the county’s firing range for one Saturday session.
Adults who live or work in the county are welcomed to submit an application for the academy. Applicants will undergo a criminal background check before being accepted. For more information, and to apply, visit the police department’s website. Applications are due by Aug. 29.
