A Home Goods employee is facing an embezzlement charge after she allegedly stole cash and merchandise from the store.
JCC Man Allegedly Tattooed Two 16-Year-Old Girls
A James City County man is facing misdemeanor charges after he allegedly tattooed two minors.
Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department said police received a complaint June 15, when the parents of a 16-year-old girl said she received a tattoo at a room in the Knights Inn on York Street on June 10.
The girl did not have any kind of parental consent to get the tattoo, which the girl paid $30 to 43-year-old Robert Paul Long III to receive, Riley said.
Police identified a second 16-year-old girl June 27 who had paid Long to receive a tattoo, Riley said. Warrants were obtained June 29 charging Long with two misdemeanor counts of tattooing a minor. Long is believed to have used commercially purchased tattoo equipment.
There was no indication the two girls knew each other, Riley said. He described one of the tattoos as a “tribal sun.”
Woman Scammed Out of Money in Online Payday Loan Scheme
A Williamsburg woman reported to police Monday she had been scammed out of $65 by someone online posing as a payday lender.
Riley said the woman was looking online for payday loans and was contacted by an agency that told her she could be loaned some money. He said the scammers instructed her to get a prepaid card, load it with some money and then provide the identifying numbers on the card at which point some money would be loaded.
The woman complied, but the scammers took the $65 on the card.
“Normally when someone is going to give you a payday loan or any type of loan, they’re going to require some kind of legal paperwork,” Riley said. “They’re not going to do that over the phone. They’re going to need signatures, so if it’s too easy, it’s probably not legitimate.”
Man Charged with Assaulting Police After Allegedly Swatting Officer’s Arm Away
A 48-year-old Williamsburg man is facing a felony assault on a police officer charge after he allegedly swatted away the arm of a police officer who approached him.
Riley said Terry Lamont Howard was seen standing on the corner talking to himself and waving his arms around in the area of Lafayette and Boundary streets at about 2:45 p.m. Monday. Police approached him to determine if everything was OK, at which point he rushed one of the officers, Riley said.
The officer pushed him back. When he held out his arm to push him back, Howard allegedly swatted it away.
Howard was then arrested, at which point he began yelling about harassment and how the police were violating his civil rights, Riley said. He was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and charged with felony assault on a police officer and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
The police officer was not harmed.

Home Goods Employee Accused of Embezzling Cash, Merchandise
A 23-year-old employee of Home Goods is facing a felony embezzlement charge after she allegedly took from the store a combination of cash and merchandise worth about $800 between March 1 and June 21.
Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department said 23-year-old Caitlyn Alice Marie Washington was identified by loss prevention officials at the store. Those officials believe Washington used the sales system to make fraudulent returns, pocketing cash from the register. She also allegedly took merchandise from the store.
No money or merchandise has been recovered.
