Philip Morris USA’s president and CEO was elected to serve as president of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Inc. Board of Directors.
Clifford Fleet, who heads the largest cigarette manufacturing company in the nation, has been elected by the nonprofit board – responsible for raising funds for Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victor Center – to serve as its president for a one-year term beginning July 1.
Fleet has served on the board for five years, and has been its treasurer since 2012. In his new role as president, Fleet will also take a seat on the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Board of Trustees, the state agency tasked with running Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center.
Fleet, on behalf of the fundraising board, has served as a liaison to the marketing and public programming committees of the state agency since 2011.
Fleet is replacing Sue Gerdelman, who has served as president of the board since January 2009. Gerdelman will remain on the fundraising board, and is joining the state agency board as an elected member.
The fundraising board has two new officers and one continuing officer joining Fleet: John Hager of Richmond will serve as the board’s vice president, Gordon Angles of Williamsburg will serve as treasurer, and Mari Ann Banks of Gloucester is continuing as secretary.
Brian Fields, of Yorktown, will join the nonprofit board as its newest member July 1, assuming the expired seat for Thomas Rutherfoord of Washington, D.C.
Fields is vice president of supply chain management for Newport News Shipbuilding. He coaches youth sports teams and has served on the Youth Challenge board. Fields earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Auburn University and a master’s degree in business administration from the College of William & Mary.
