The James City County Police Department is investigating after someone broke into a home in Colonial Heritage and stole jewelry valued between $40,000 and $50,000.
The theft occurred June 5 between 12:50 and 4:30 p.m. The culprit or culprits entered the home on the 4000 block of Gunlock Road and went straight for the master bedroom, where the jewelry was stolen from a jewelry box, said Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department.
Nothing else in the house was taken or disturbed, according to the 76-year-old victim. Rubino said the theft could have been perpetrated by someone who had previously been in the house.
“There were a number of people who were there with legitimate purpose to be there,” he said.
Rubino declined to describe the stolen jewelry. Anyone with information should contact Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
