JCCPolice PatchThe James City County Police Department will host its fifth annual Project Lifesaver Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Warhill High School.

Money raised from the event will go to the department’s Project Lifesaver program. That program uses radio transmitters to track people with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism and other disorders that cause them to wander away from home. Each transmitter has a unique frequency, allowing police to respond and track the person down, often within 30 minutes.

There are currently 31 people in the program. Once a month, police visit each participant to change the batteries in their transmitters. As long as funding remains in place, the program will be free and available to the public.

The show is open to all vehicles, ranging from antique to brand new, according to a news release announcing the show. Registration is $10 and can be done in advance or on the day of the show. Awards will be presented for the top 35 vehicles as well as best of show, best truck, best motorcycle and kid’s choice.

Spectators can get into the show for $1. All attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to fill a police car to benefit the local Salvation Army food bank. Along with demonstrations from police, there will be food, music and raffles.

Project Lifesaver is used by 1,200 agencies in the U.S., Canada and Australia. The program has saved 2,619 lives, according to the release. It is available in all three Historic Triangle municipalities. Find out how to enroll here.
