Uniform Plus, Pier 1 Imports and Party City have recently signed leases to open new stores in Settler’s Market.

Uniform Plus and Pier 1 Imports plan to relocate from existing spaces in James City County to the budding Settler’s Market shopping center on Monticello Avenue near New Town. Party City, which has stores in Newport News, Norfolk and Colonial Heights plans to open a new store in James City County.

Currently located on Lightfoot Road near the Williamsburg Antique Mall, Uniform Plus will relocate to Settler’s Market around May 1, to open in the same building as Hi-Ho Silver and Pizzeria Marzano.

“[There is] more traffic than where I’m at now. There’s a lot more going on there.” said Jason Dill, who co-owns Uniform Plus with his wife Annalisa, of Anna’s Brick Oven. “It’s just a little mom-and-pop place and we’re happy the customers are taking good care of us, and we figure we can get more traffic over there in the heart of town.”

Dill hopes his business will benefit from the foot traffic of the larger stores, including Walmart Neighborhood Market, Petco and Cost Plus World Market. With the move, Dill will add the 511 brand to the store’s clothing line; the brand is designed for emergency services personnel and firefighters.

Pier 1 Imports is planned to open across from Petco in a building yet to be constructed. The store will be a new design, which the company’s Public Relations Coordinator Chrissy Madison called “a natural evolution of the Pier 1 Imports experience.”

The store will have a new look, with “natural-colored floor tiles, rustic ceiling elements, enhanced store lighting and lit shelving units lining the walls,” which should allow customers to visualize items as they would appear in a home. The store will also include open stock merchandise.

A Pier 1 Imports location is currently open at 4900 Monticello Ave., next to Bed, Bath and Beyond and Belk. That store is planned to close for a move to Settler’s Market late this year or early 2015.

Party City is planned to open next to World Market on Aug. 22.

The store will include an in-store design studio where shoppers can create custom banners and invitations, and four smaller shopping cities: Candy City, Sports City, Color City and Favor City.

Candy and Favor cities will offer loose items for party favor bags. Color City will house accessories like wigs, sunglasses and hats for photo booths and events, and Sports City will contain sport event items and professional team products tailored to the local market.

“It’s going to be a truly great party shopping experience,” said Jared Boyd, a company spokesperson.
