Historic Triangle Localities, WATA Announce Holiday Hours

During the holidays, hours for city services and offices will slightly change with some closures.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, city offices, the Quarterpath Recreation Center and Waller Mill Park will all be closed. The trash collection service will not be affected by the holidays, but there will be no recycling collection Wednesday. A make-up recycling day will take place Saturday. The city will collect Christmas trees placed at the curb before 7 a.m. Jan. 6 and Jan. 13.

On New Year’s Eve, city offices will remain open for normal hours of operation but the Quarterpath Recreation Center will close early at 4:30 p.m. On New Year’s Day, city offices, the Quarterpath Recreation Center and Waller Mill Park will be closed and there will be no recycling collection on New Year’s Day with a make-up recycling day taking place Jan. 4. Trash collection will not be affected by New Year’s Day.

York County

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, all county offices will be closed, as well the courthouse in Yorktown, York-Poquoson Social Services, Virginia Cooperative Extension and both York County libraries. All operations at the Waste Management Center will be offline on Christmas and New Year’s Day. All operations at the Waste Management Center will go on as normal on Christmas Eve, except for the VPPSA Compost Facility, which will close at noon Tuesday.

All of those places will also be closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, other than the Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Transfer Station and Recycling Drop Off Facility and the VPPSA Compost Facility, all of which will be open Dec. 31.

Trash collection on Christmas and New Year’s Day is canceled and will move forward one day until everything is caught up Saturday. Wednesday pickups will be moved to Thursday this week and next. Thursday pickups will move to Friday, and Friday pickups will move to Saturday.

Recycling collection for Christmas and  New Year’s Day is canceled. Collection that would normally happen Wednesday will happen Saturday. Jan. 1 collection will occur Jan. 4. All other collections will occur on their regular day.

Please have all containers roadside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

James City County

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the James City County offices, libraries and courts will be closed. The courts will also be closed today. The James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center and the Interpretive Center at Freedom Park will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The county’s convenience centers will be open until noon Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

On New Year’s Eve, the Recreation Center, Community Center and Interpretive Center will close at 6 p.m.

On New Year’s Day, all James City County offices, libraries and courts will be closed. The James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center and the Interpretive Center at Freedom Park will also be closed.

Williamsburg Area Transit Authority

The Williamsburg Area Transit Authority’s fixed-route bus services will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Fixed-route service and the Williamsburg Trolley will run until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The Green Line, which serves the College of William & Mary will not run between Dec. 19 and Jan. 10. Service will resume at 10 a.m. Jan. 11. During the school break, the Red Line will pick up at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law.
