Several Historic Triangle institutions are hosting events to commemorate the Fourth of July, so make sure to park in the right place to avoid any problems.

Colonial Williamsburg Celebration
Festivities will be underway at Colonial Williamsburg from 10 a.m. through 9:20 p.m. Saturday, when the annual fireworks show will start.
Public parking is available at the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitors Center (101 Visitor Center Drive), the Bruton Heights Education Center (301 First St.) and in the overflow lot on Route 132Y opposite the Woodlands Hotel and Suites (near 105 Visitor Center Drive), according to Colonial Williamsburg Spokesman Joe Straw.
Straw said all other parking on Colonial Williamsburg Foundation property is reserved for foundation employees and guests of the foundation’s hotels.
The Historic Area remains closed to vehicle traffic as normal.
Williamsburg Spokeswoman Lee Ann Hartman said guests can park in the two public parking garages downtown — the Prince George Parking Garage at 230 Prince George St. and the city’s other parking deck, located adjacent to the Williamsburg Community Building (401 North Boundary St.).
While the garage next to the community building is free and available for up to two hours, the Prince George Street garage requires cash or credit card payment after the first 30 minutes, which are free.
Customers must pay $1 an hour for the Prince George Street garage to a maximum of $12 per day, according to the city’s website.
The public may also park on nearby residential streets as long as driveways and fire hydrants are not blocked. There is also limited availability in the Matthew Whaley Parking Lot (301 Scotland St.).
Yorktown Festivities
Yorktown’s Fourth of July celebration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and culminates with the 9:15 p.m. fireworks display over the York River.
The public may park on the Yorktown Battlefield at the intersection of Cook Road and Ballard Street, according to a news release from county spokeswoman Gail Whittaker.
That parking is free, and will be available beginning at 4 p.m. The walk from the battlefield to the Yorktown waterfront is about 1 mile.
The Yorktown Trolley will be operating from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A special parking area for handicapped and special needs visitors is available at Yorktown Middle School (11201 George Washington Memorial Highway). A free shuttle from the middle school to the waterfront will be available for each handicapped visitor and one escort.
The shuttle is available from 4 to 7 p.m. and from 9:45 to 10:30 p.m.
Dropoffs are not permitted in Yorktown or Yorktown Middle School.
