A 56-year-old Williamsburg man who went out fishing on his boat on the York River on Monday afternoon has gone missing.
Virginia Marine Resources Commission spokesperson John Bull said the man’s boat was found Tuesday morning on the Gloucester side of the York River about 1 mile south of the Coleman Bridge. The man’s family reported him missing after he did not come home Monday night. He left to go fishing at about 4 p.m. Monday, telling his family he would be home by 11:30 p.m.
Officers from the Virginia Marine Police found his 14-foot john boat with fish on board. They also found his lifejacket and his fishing pole.
Bull said the water was 42 degrees last night. The conditions are currently calm on the river, however the temperature remains low.
A Marine Police boat, a York County Division of Fire and Life Safety boat and two U.S. Coast Guard boats are currently participating in the search along with a Marine Police airplane and a Coast Guard helicopter.
