The James City County Democratic Committee announced Monday that John McGlennon will be its candidate for the Roberts District seat on the James City County Board of Supervisors in November’s election.
McGlennon has served as the Roberts supervisor since he was first elected in 1997, making him the longest serving member currently on the board. He said Tuesday he plans to run for another four-year term and he expects to make a formal announcement next week.
“I think there are some important issues that need to be addressed, and I think I can offer continuing leadership on the board that is working together right now,” he said.
McGlennon said he would expand on what issues need to be addressed when he makes a formal announcement. When he makes that announcement and enters the race, it will pit him against Heather Cordasco, a member of the Williamsburg-James City County School Board who announced her intention in February to run for the Roberts seat as the Republican candidate.
The James City County Democratic Committee was planning to hold a caucus Wednesday to elect candidates for the Roberts District seat and for the county’s commissioner of the revenue.
Jen Tierney, the chairwoman of the James City County Democratic Committee, said in the email the caucus had been canceled because McGlennon was the only candidate nominated for the Roberts seat and incumbent Commissioner of the Revenue Richard Bradshaw was the only candidate nominated for that job.
James City County Registrar A.J. Cole said Tuesday neither McGlennon nor Bradshaw have formally filed to run for re-election with his office. The filing deadline is 7 p.m. June 9. He said only Cordasco has so far filed for the Roberts seat and nobody has filed for the commissioner of the revenue job.

Bradshaw, who has been the county’s commissioner of the revenue since 2000, confirmed Tuesday he is also planning on running in November.
“There’s still a lot to be done here,” he said. “We’ve got a new computer system, and I want to make sure that’s functional. The work is still rewarding, being able to assist citizens as well as the general county. It’s what I’ve been doing for the last 16 years.”
The commissioner of the revenue’s office is responsible for assessing property taxes, providing statistical information, administering business taxes and helping the county and public to understand tax laws and procedures.
The election will be held Nov. 3.
