This week, a man is accused of breaking into a business to steal his own paycheck, and one person was charged with breaking into the Carrot Tree restaurant and Nazar Mediterranean Restaurant.

James City County
Two Charged with Shoplifting from 7-Eleven After Filling Out Job Applications
Four Prince George County adults are accused of stealing items from the Sandy Bay 7-Eleven after two of the four suspects applied for jobs at the convenience store.
James City County Police arrested 37-year-old Brandy Hinson, 23-year-old Brandon Backmon and 18-year-old Michael Hinson on March 26 after watching video surveillance in which they appear to steal the merchandise.
The three adults, along with another suspect who has not yet been charged and three children, walked into the 7-Eleven near Sandy Bay and Jamestown roads on March 23, according to a police report.
Brandy Hinson and Michael Hinson then filled out a job application while the others stole items including a package of eggs and three pairs of sunglasses, police said.
Brandy Hinson is also suspected of stealing five or more packs of cigarettes, a burrito, two pairs of sunglasses, two DVDs and two pens.
She was charged with felony third offense of concealment of merchandise.
Backmon and Michael Hinson were each charged with misdemeanor concealment of merchandise.
Police: Man Arrested for Breaking into Business for Paycheck
A 25-year-old man is facing charges after police say he broke into an office building, stole his paycheck on the day it was supposed to be distributed and cashed the check.
The employee, Alexander J. Morton, broke a glass panel on the front door of the business located in the 5400 block of Discovery Park Boulevard on April 10 in order to get inside, a James City County Police report said.
The manager of the business told police the front desk had been rummaged through, and a paycheck made out to Morton was missing from a stack of payroll checks that were to be distributed that day.
The paycheck was cashed at the bank that morning, police said.
Three days later, Morton was spotted driving on Pocahontas Trail. After running the license plate, officers pulled Morton over and placed him under arrest for misdemeanor destruction of property, felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor check larceny.
While placing Morton under arrest, officers found he had a smoking device containing spice and two counterfeit $50 bills. He was further charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of counterfeit bank notes.
York County Teen Suspected of Credit Card Theft
A 17-year-old boy has been referred to James City County juvenile intake after police say he stole a woman’s credit card.
The boy, whose name cannot be released due to his age, used the card at various banks in York County between March 31 and April 1 to withdraw a total of $1,016.
Surveillance video from the banks showed the suspect withdrawing the cash with the stolen card, police said.
Stephanie Williams with the James City County Police department said the juvenile and the woman were acquaintances.
York County Woman Accused of Falsely Obtaining Welfare Benefits
A 38-year-old woman is facing five charges after she lied to the Department of Social Services about having a juvenile living in her home, police said.
In October, Christina Kelly McEacharn received $2,965 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits after filing false reports about having a minor living with her in her home, police said.
She was arrested and charged with four misdemeanor counts of making false statements to obtain property.
Police issued a warrant in January charging McEacharn with a felony charge of making false statements to DSS for more than $200 in benefits she was not entitled to. James City County Police arrested her April 10.
Woman Charged with Underage Drinking, Possession after Running Stop Sign, Police Say
An 18-year-old James City County woman was arrested after police pulled her over and discovered she was intoxicated and in possession of a controlled substance.
Police said Micayla Anne Osborn was driving down Longhill Road when she ran a stop sign.
The James City County officer who pulled her over suspected she was intoxicated and asked Osborn to perform field sobriety tests.
The officer also found an orange pill identified as Adderall, a drug commonly used to treat narcolepsy and ADHD, Williams said.
Osborn told the officer she did not have a prescription for the drug and was charged with possession of a class II controlled substance as well as underage possession of alcohol and driving illegally while intoxicated.
Man Pulled Over for Speeding, Charged with Distribution of Marijuana
A 20-year-old Williamsburg man was arrested after police pulled him over for speeding and found jars and baggies of marijuana, authorities said.
Kareem Hassan Ahmed was going 57 mph in a 45 mph in the 6300 block of Richmond Road when a James City County Police officer pulled him over, according to Williams.
After approaching the car, the officer smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle, finding two jars and three baggies of the drug and a digital scale, Williams said.
Ahmed was charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and received a speeding ticket.
One Arrested in Connection with Nazar Restaurant Break-In
An 18-year-old man is facing charges after police say he broke into Nazar Mediterranean Restaurant and The Carrot Tree.
Witnesses told police Brooks Rouse said he was going to break into the Carrot Tree restaurant “for several days,” Williams said.
Immediately after the break-in, witnesses said they saw Rouse counting money.
Police arrived at Nazar restaurant Feb. 18 to find the door had been forcibly opened and damaged and $150 had been stolen from the business.
Police later discovered the Carrot Tree had also been entered, but nothing was taken.
Rouse is charged with two felony counts of breaking and entering, one misdemeanor count of destruction of property and one misdemeanor count of larceny.
Hampton Man Heads to Grand Jury for Suspected Jewelry Theft

A 28-year-old man accused of stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry had one felony charge against him certified to a grand jury last week.
Bruce Cherry, a Hampton man who was arrested in December, faces one felony charge of stealing property with intent to sell and will face a grand jury, who will determine if there is enough evidence to move the case forward to Circuit Court.
Police said Cherry was delivering a refrigerator to a home on Riverview Road near the York River State Park on Aug. 24 when he stole about $10,000 of assorted jewelry from the bedroom after asking the owner if he could use the bathroom.
He allegedly pawned five of the stolen items at a pawn shop in Newport News, a police report shows.
Cherry was originally also facing a felony charge of grand larceny, but that charge was dropped at a hearing last week.
JCC Police Looking for Suspect in Ford’s Colony Burglary
Police are asking the public for help in locating a woman suspected of stealing jewelry from a home in Ford’s Colony.
A Facebook post on the county’s page said the theft occurred on March 25, when the homeowner woke from his nap in the living room after hearing a noise coming from the bedroom.
The man assumed the noise was made by his wife, but a short time later he went into the bedroom and saw leaves and dirt scuff marks on the bedroom door, which leads to the back porch.
The man told police he remembers seeing an unknown female earlier that day in his backyard. When the man asked if he could help her, the woman said she was “looking for her cat.”
The homeowners later discovered several pieces of jewelry were missing.

Williamsburg
Man Accused of Operating Meth Lab in Motel 6 Heads to Grand Jury
A 29-year-old Virginia Beach man accused of manufacturing methamphetamine in a Williamsburg hotel room had a felony charge against him certified Thursday.
Jeremiah Dillon McKown will now face a grand jury, who will determine if there is enough evidence to move the case forward to Circuit Court.
McKown confessed to Williamsburg Police in October during his arrest that he and several others had been manufacturing the drug in his Motel 6 room.
In the hotel room, police found several items associated with illegal drugs and a meth lab in plain view, according to court documents.
McKown admitted he obtained the items necessary for making meth from people who assisted him and that he intended to sell the drug, the criminal complaint against him states.
On Thursday, one felony charge of conspiring to violate the Virginia drug act was dropped.
He will face a grand jury on one felony count of manufacturing a controlled substance May 20.
York County
Deputies Looking for Suspected Walmart Electronics Thief

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in identifying a man accused of stealing several hundred dollars’ worth of electronics from the Tabb Walmart.
A post on the YPSO Facebook page said the theft occurred at around 7 p.m. March 23.

Four Men Wanted for Stealing Nintendo Game Consoles

Deputies are looking for four men accused of stealing 20 Nintendo 3DS game consoles from the Walmart in Upper York County.
A YPSO Facebook post said the four men, described as white or Hispanic and wearing ball caps and dark clothing, entered the Walmart on April 4.
One of the men was seen attempting to pry the glass display case doors open while the others walked around the store, the post said.
The man was able to get the bottom part of the doors open, and the four men took 20 game consoles and exited the store.
