A local face will step in as James City County’s director of human resources starting May 1.
County Administrator Bryan Hill said Tuesday he has hired Angie Gilliam, the director of human resources at Busch Gardens, to take over the spot vacated when Pete Peterson resigned in November.
“It’s always good to bring in people who are within James City County, that’s first and foremost,” he said.
Hill said Gilliam brings “a lot of excitement and energy” to the job. Cindy Monk, the assistant director of human resources for the county, had been filling in as director since Peterson left.
Gilliam’s oversight of the seasonal employees at Busch Gardens made her an appealing candidate to Hill, who said he wants to hire the best and retain them.
“[Busch Gardens has] a very high rate of employees coming back even though they’re seasonal,” he said. “We want to look at the retention policies they use over there to see if we can do the same thing over here with our seasonals as well as retaining all our employees.”
