The Cove Tavern off Strawberry Plains Road in James City County has closed its doors until March to revamp its menu and service, according to a post on its Facebook page.
The closure was announced via a sign on the restaurant’s window and its Facebook page. Calls to the restaurant’s owner from WYDaily seeking comment have not been returned.
The first post announcing the closure was published Jan. 18 on the Facebook page. A post on Jan. 20 announced the reason for the closure.
A post on the Cove’s website thanks customers for “all of your support through the years.”
The restaurant is located in the former home of Backfin Tavern, which closed in June 2011 after 25 years of business. Backfin owner Waverly Brooks sold his restaurant that month to current owner Curtis Lyons, who then reopened it as the Cove.
The Cove has a second location in Newport News, which remains open. Lyons also owns Roger Brown’s in Portsmouth.
