Ninety-eight phone calls to a woman in one day have landed a man misdemeanor charges, police said.
A James City County Police report accuses 49-year-old Walter Zehler of taking photos of his 49-year-old ex-girlfriend while she was in the shower Jan. 7 then sending them to her in a text message.
The ex-girlfriend told police she believed the photos were taken — unbeknownst to her — when the suspect was visiting her at home in December.
Stephanie Williams with the James City County Police Department said after sending the photos, Zehler threatened to share the photos on social media and called the woman 98 times in one day when she did not respond to hundreds of texts and emails.
He continued sending her harassing and intimidating messages through email the next day, using “obscene, vulgar, lewd and indecent language,” Williams said.
The woman reported the messages to police Jan. 8, and warrants were obtained charging Zehler with unlawful photography and use of a computer for harassment, both misdemeanors.
