Police Receive Report of Breaking and Entering

Police are investigating after a woman reported her house on Fiddler’s Ridge Parkway in Berkeley’s Green was broken into Nov. 28.

The woman told James City County Police at around 9:15 p.m. that she had returned home after two days away and noticed a light on, Stephanie Williams with the James City County Police Department said.

When she entered her home, she found kitchen cabinet doors were open, the back door was open and a window was shattered, a police report states.

Police searched the home and found medication had been taken from the kitchen cabinets and from a nightstand drawer in the bedroom.

Police are still investigating at this time, Williams said.

A woman reported to James City County Police last week she was being filmed while using the bathroom.

Officers with the James City County Police Department responded to the Walmart Grocery Store off Monticello Avenue in Settlers Market Nov. 30 and were told the victim had been in a stall in the women’s restroom and saw someone in a connecting stall holding a phone underneath the stall, Williams said.

The woman in the bathroom provided police with a description of the person, and officers are investigating, Williams said.

Toano Man Accused Pistol-Whipping Woman Enters Alford Plea

A 42-year-old man will be sentenced for an amended felony after three of four charges were dropped against him at a hearing Monday.

Ernest Wilson Lipscomb III was convicted of hitting a woman in the eye with a gun at a house party Monday by entering an Alford plea, meaning he asserts his innocence but agrees the evidence would be sufficient for a judge or jury to find him guilty.

The victim said Lipscomb got into a confrontation with another person at the party in the kitchen July 20, and when the victim approached the confrontation, Lipscomb hit her with the gun, a police report states.

She testified Lipscomb then walked around the house located in the 2600 block of Chickahominy Road, pointing the gun at other party attendees and threatening to come back and kill everyone in the house, authorities said.

The woman suffered swelling and bruising to her right eye with a laceration to one side, police said.

Lipscomb’s attorney Joshua Goff said at a hearing Monday that although the evidence was sufficient to find his client guilty, Lipscomb “strongly disagrees that any gun was involved.”

As part of a plea agreement, the malicious wounding charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $100,000 fine, was amended to unlawful wounding. Lipscomb faces a maximum punishment of five years in prison and a $2,500 fine. He will be sentenced in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court at 1 p.m. Feb. 9.

Three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and brandishing a firearm were dropped at Monday’s hearing.
