Police are investigating a suspected fight involving gunfire at Norge Community Hall, where a woman was allegedly assaulted.
Latia Monea Robertson, 23, is facing a felony assault charge after James City County Police were contacted by a 37-year-old woman who said Robertson struck her in the back of the head and then cut her with a “box cutter-like” object at a party held in Norge Hall on Nov. 29.
Stephanie Williams, a spokesperson with the James City County Police Department, said it is unclear whether the alleged altercation between Robertson and the woman is related to the shots fired and the fight that broke out at the party.
Several officers responded to the party at 7400 block of Richmond Road down the street from Norge Elementary School at around 2 a.m. Nov. 29 after receiving reports of shots fired, Williams said. When officers arrived, they found a large group of people dispersing quickly on foot and in cars.
Williams said investigators were able to interview some of the partygoers, and the investigation remains ongoing. James City County Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shots fired and have received no information about any injuries related to gunfire from the incident.
Later that morning, the police department was contacted by a Mary Immaculate Hospital nurse, who said a patient had come in with injuries that stemmed from a party.
The victim, who refused to disclose the location of the party, had lacerations on her mouth, neck and arms, Williams said. The two are acquaintances.
Robertson is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Williamsburg-James City County General District Court at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 8.
