Williamsburg-James City County Schools have a new chief financial officer.
Christina Berta will take over as WJCC’s CFO on Jan. 5, replacing Terry Stone, who resigned from the position Aug. 19 to take a similar position in Henrico County.
Berta currently serves as finance director for Isle of Wight County Schools.
“This is a bittersweet moment for me,” Berta said in a news release. “This was a difficult decision as I have truly enjoyed working with my wonderful colleagues, but this new position is also an amazing opportunity to advance my career. I am proud of the work that my team has done to ensure that the school division remains fiscally responsible.”
Berta has served as Isle of Wight’s CFO since 2011, and previously worked as the school divison’s manager of financial services. She also worked as a senior accountant in Portsmouth Public Schools from 2006-11, and as an investment analyst in the City of Chesapeake Treasurer’s Office from 2002-06.
She received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Catawba College, and a master’s degree from Strayer University in 2005.
Although she is leaving the division for WJCC, the release said Berta will continue to advise Isle of Wight on their budget process until she officially assumes her new position.
Berta is WJCC’s third CFO since February 2013, when Scott Burckbuchler left the division to become superintendent of Essex County Schools.
