A 22-year-old woman faces up to 10 years in prison and $2,500 fine after she was convicted Monday of videotaping herself abusing her child.

Kimberly Michelle Hines, a resident of Tappahannock, was arrested in July after her boyfriend told police Hines had sent him videos of her kicking her 2-and-a-half year old daughter and throwing items including a book, a pillow and a toy at her at a home in the Lafayette Village Apartments off Longhill Road in James City County.

Hines’ boyfriend also reported the incident to Child Protective Services.

The child suffered minor injuries, including bruising and cuts, according to a police report.

Hines admitted to police when she was arrested the next day she hurt the child and sent the videos to her boyfriend, Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Kufro said at a hearing Monday.

Hines underwent a mental health evaluation at the request of her attorney and was found competent to stand trial in September.

A misdemeanor domestic assault and battery charge was dropped Oct. 31.

As part of a plea agreement, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office concedes it will not pursue any additional criminal charges.

Hines, who has been incarcerated since the July 20 incident, was denied bond again Monday. She will be sentenced for the felony child abuse charge at 10 a.m. Jan. 28.
