Man Arrested for Attacking Two Women
A Williamsburg man accused of attacking two women in 2012 in the Springhill subdivision of James City County was arrested Nov. 22.
Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City County Police Department said officers arrested 33-year-old Ray Anthony Canady and charged him with one count of felony malicious wounding and two counts of misdemeanor assault.
Rubino said Canady is accused of punching a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old woman and then body slamming one the 19-year-old before fleeing the area. One of the women told police the 19-year-old was joking around with Canady when he became angry and attacked her, breaking her collarbone. The 20-year-old then intervened, and Canady allegedly punched her in the face before running away.
Both women were taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. The warrants were on file for more than a year before the Newport News Police Department found Canady and arrested him.
Several People Accused of Brawling in James City County
One man has been arrested and police may arrest up to three more people in connection with a Nov. 22 brawl at a residence on the 4300 block of Ironbound Road.
Rubino said officers responded to a reported fight in progress at the residence just after 9 p.m. Nov. 22. When they arrived, they found a 49-year-old man bleeding from the head. Subsequent investigation revealed the man had attempted to solicit or had solicited sex from a 44-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman.
The women refused. One of them then went to the 49-year-old man’s home to tell his wife. Police said the 49-year-old then came back to his home and started yelling at the woman. The woman’s brother, 47-year-old Rodney Alexander White, told the 49-year-old to stop yelling. The 49-year-old then smashed a glass bottle of alcohol over White’s head.
At that point, White and his 69-year-old mother began yelling at the 49-year-old. The 49-year-old is then accused of grabbing the 69-year-old by the neck, throwing her to the ground and choking her. Numerous people then forced the 49-year-old off the 69-year-old woman and began striking him.
The 49-year-old had to be taken to the emergency room for treatment of his injuries. White was treated by medics on scene.
The 49-year-old has several charges pending against him, though since they haven’t been formalized, Rubino hasn’t released his name. White was arrested Nov. 24 and charged with assault and battery. Charges are pending against two other people involved in the incident.
“It appears that some of the assault on the 49-year-old may have been in retaliation and not in defense of the 69-year-old,” Rubino said. There is no indication of any injuries to the 69-year-old.
Woman Accused of Embezzling More Than $3K from Kate Spade Outlet
A 25-year-old woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly embezzled more than $3,000 in clothing from the Kate Spade Outlet at the Premium Outlets between June and September.
Rubino said Ashley Lauren Beckman was an employee of the outlet when she is alleged to have taken the clothing. It is unclear how the store figured out what was going on. None of the clothing has been recovered.
Beckman faces one felony count of embezzlement.
Sex Offender Fails to Register
A man convicted in a 2011 rape in James City County was arrested Monday after he failed to register as a sex offender.
Rubino said the Virginia State Police put out warrants for 68-year-old Eugene Williams after he failed to register. James City County Police arrested him Monday. He was convicted in the 2011 rape of a 62-year-old James City County woman.
Williams faces one felony count of failing to register as a violent sex offender.
