One of four people suspected of breaking into a home off Olde Towne Road, stealing firearms and beating a 58-year-old woman has been identified.
James City County Police identified a 15-year-old boy they say knocked on the door of a house in the 100 block of King William Drive around 12:30 p.m. Nov. 8.
A 16-year-old boy answered the door, authorities said. He later told police he knew the 15-year-old.
The boy at the residence let the 15-year-old inside, and three men who were in the front yard at the time entered the house shortly after, according to Deputy Chief Steve Rubino of the James City County Police Department.
The three men began searching the home for guns and valuables, Rubino said. Two men went upstairs into a bedroom and were going through jewelry when they were confronted by the 16-year-old’s stepmother.
The woman attempted to call 911 but was stopped by one of the men, who allegedly put her in a headlock and began punching her repeatedly.
Rubino said the woman fought back, biting the suspect, but was knocked to the floor and kicked by him.
The four then ran from the residence, taking multiple firearms with them, Rubino said.
The stepmother was transported by ambulance to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital and treated for facial injuries.
Tracking dogs were used during an initial search of the area, Rubino said.
Police have asked the court to charge and detain the 15-year-old boy for maiming, grand larceny, breaking and entering, conspiracy to commit a felony and robbery.
As of Friday, the three other men have not been identified or arrested.
