A 22-year-old man accused of strangling and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman at a November 2012 party in James City County will face a jury Monday.
Steve Benedict Casper is slated for a two-day jury trial beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court. He pleaded not guilty to the offenses at a May hearing.
The jury will listen to arguments from prosecutors and Casper’s attorney concerning one count of sexual battery, one count of strangulation, one count of attempted forcible sodomy, one count of forcible sodomy, one count of rape, one count of abduction with intent to defile and three counts of object sexual penetration.
Police said in March that Casper allegedly prevented the woman from leaving the room as he sexually assaulted her. The woman eventually bit him and fled the residence. She did not require hospitalization, nor did she live at the residence where the incident occurred, though Casper did.
Casper is now a Centreville resident.
