The last of three men alleged to have stolen $2,100 worth of clothes from Polo Ralph Lauren in Williamsburg Premium Outlets was arrested Tuesday.
Jordan Tyler Douglas, 21, was charged with one felony count of grand larceny, one felony count of conspiracy to commit grand larceny and one felony count of possession of burglary tools.
Police reported Douglas and two others — 22-year-old Gary Lee Drew and 21-year-old Roman Jevonte Celestand — entered the store June 30 and with “Grip Snip” wire cutters used to cut sensors off clothing.
James City County Police Department Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said the three men stuffed clothes into shopping bags after removing the sensors and walked out of the store.
Witnesses observed the men getting into a silver Hyundai, Rubino said. After tracking the car using the license plate description provided by the witnesses, investigators discovered the vehicle had been rented from an Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Norfolk, where the three men live.
Norfolk and James City County Police officers waited at the Enterprise Rent-a-Car at the date and time the car was scheduled to be returned, Rubino said. Officers questioned the person who returned the car, who revealed the three people who used her car.
Police then identified the people through store surveillance videos.
Charges against Drew and Celestand were later dropped after a sales associate working at the Polo Ralph Lauren at the time of the incident was unable to identify the men, Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Gaten said.
Douglas is scheduled to appear in Williamsburg-James City County District Court for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Dec. 16.
